My Man

The last months worth of posts have been mainly on the little man so, not to leave anyone out, I thought I’d do one on my big man.

“A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches…” Prov. 22:1

Brian has established a good name here in Dallas; about a week and a half ago, I grilled up some steaks to celebrate Brian’s promotion at work! He’s worked hard, proven himself knowledgeable, capably handled assignments and now holds a title to reflect all of that.

“See a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings..” Prov. 22:29

Here’s a picture of Brian’s workplace – his window looks out over this field of bluebonnets where we took the previously posted pictures.

Brian also works hard to keep himself in shape (because I like his big muscles). He took great care of me as my pregnancy progressed and adjusted himself to my limitations so we could still do things together. After I ran with Lance for nine months Brian is taking his turn – he’s starting Lance out right.

“Train up a child in the way he should go and in the end he will not depart from it” Prov. 22:6

Another project for Brian has been his Master’s degree. He’s over half way done and continues to crank out the work – early mornings, evenings, weekends. Of course, there’s always time to take a break and read with Lance.

“The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.” Pro 16:21

Brian also shares in the care of his son; changing diapers, bathing, helping when he’s fussy, carting his stuff around when we go places and watching him if I need to run a quick errand. He’s always ready to jump in if I need help with a meal or the housework too.

Of course, Brian does more than just the grunt work, he plays with his son and delights in him. He loves to scoop Lance up talk to him, “teach” him “life skills” (like burping) and tell him over and over how cute he is and that “Daddy loves you”.

“To turn the hearts of the fathers to the children….to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” Luke 1:17

I’m very proud of my hard working man and I know that when he gets bigger, Lance will be too.

I love you Brian!

Bluebonnets

“The grass withers, the flower fades….”

Today Lance is 1 month old! Hard to believe that we’ve already enjoyed him for that long!

Posing in the Bluebonnets is a “family tradition” but you have to be quick – in a few weeks all of these flowers will be gone, just like the few weeks of Lance’s life that have already passed.

“…But the word of our Lord stands forever!”

People and the word of God are the only two things that will last beyond this world. Even though weeks fly by and each beautiful stage fades away to the next, I can rejoice knowing that this little life will last for eternity.

Lance is such a good little guy; not fussy, content, quite the charmer and a delight to everyone he meets. He loves to play with daddy, go for walks and have “singing time” with mommy. He’s very alert and will stay awake for two and sometime three hours, just observing the world around him.

Like father, like son.

Bath time

Somehow, without seeming to do much more than eat and sleep, my little boy manages to need a bath. Sometimes it’s because of contact with lots of people and a need to “de-germ” him, other times it’s a gradual build up of spit up, dirty diapers and just plain living, but the result is the same – bath time!

Makes me think of the concept of being cleansed by God’s word. Sometimes I’ve been in contact with bad influences, mingled with the ‘wrong crowd’ too much or shared disgruntled feelings with someone at church. In this case I need to “de-germ” myself and regain a proper focus by going to the scriptures and letting truth wash out the lies. Other times I’ve just been living my ‘normal’ life, perhaps not seeing anyone besides Brian for several days with little to no contact with “the world.” Yet I still get dirty, dirty with complacency, self-centeredness, or discouragement. Again I need the cleansing effect of reading my Bible to refresh my outlook on life.

Bath time is not always pleasant as little Lance is telling us. Sometimes getting clean isn’t fun when sin gets pointed out and I have to get humble with God.

But after it’s all over, contentment and happiness reign when God’s love wraps you up like a big towel.

And now for a little fun….

“Mom, what have you done to me?”

“Are you laughing at my expense?”

In the end, having used baby shampoo to wash him, baby powder to dry the damp spots and baby lotion to moisten the dry spots, he smells like a proper baby.

Applying different verses to the right spots leaves us smelling like proper Christians.

Is it time for a bath?

My Midwives

Yesterday I had a midwife appointment and everyone was there to see little Lance. They said that he was special because he had the whole birth center praying for him and everyone was asking for updates on how things were going.

This is everyone that helped with the birth:

Heidi, Me (I guess I helped), Lance (he didn’t help much), Kelsey, Sorani and Lisa

Here’s Kelsey my main midwife and Sorani who was the “over seer.” These two were great fun and a big blessing. Lance and I owe a lot to their skill and ability to handle anything that comes up. Since Kelsey is in training, we had hoped to give her a good experience and boy did we ever! After a pregnancy that was almost textbook classic, we piled a lot of “experience” into a few short weeks giving not only her but everyone more than they ever wanted to see. We’re all glad that in the end, everyone was fine.

As for the rest of the check up – I’m doing well and have the go ahead to start toning up the abs. I also jumped on the scale and was happy to be back at my pre-pregnancy weight (I should start a business, lose 20 pounds in 20 days!) Lance was foot-printed, though he protested, and got a little heel prick for the PKU test which he protested even more! Over all though, he was properly admired and adored by everyone and behaved himself rather decently.

Cousins!

A little behind on my posting, but I wanted to share some precious pictures with everyone. My brother, Michael and his wife Lindsey came to visit us on Saturday so the cousins could officially meet for the first time.

While Connor made all the Jones kids aunts and uncles several years ago, Michael and Lindsey had to wait for that title until our little Tadpole came along.

We visited at the house for a while then Connor helped me make pizza for everyone (he had a great time putting spices on – all in one spot). Afterwards we all went to the park!

The dads walked to the park while the moms drove. Uncle Brian played hide and seek with Connor and got us the compliment that we have “a fun house!”

Lance and Abbie were less than interested in the playground – naptime seemed like a better idea.
