The last two days I witnessed once again the vast difference between boys and girls.
This morning it was Josiah Faas. He came in from running right as Stacie and I were about to go out. He had just done ten miles in 77 minutes; thereโs no way Iโm going to make it that fast.
This afternoon we tried playing boys against girls in soccer – just for fun. Well in good fun we got smeared. We managed to make one point (to their 10 bazillion) only after they quit leaving a goalie back there to guard. They even let us have a guy on our team “just to make it fair” ๐
Of course sports/athletics are quite obvious when it comes to differences, but each one has a whole different mindset, as played out on the ice last night.
It was towards the end of our skating time and someone had the bright idea of scooping up the ice shavings and making snowballs. So skaters and snowballs alike were whizzing around the arena. I decided to make a snow man. Completing that, I made a snow woman and a snow child with the help of some other girls. (the tallest is about 1 foot) We were about to go get Rowan to take our picture when suddenly, out of nowhere, Mr. Krause comes flying in, slides across the ice in front of us and grabs our snow family! The kidnapper turned murderer as he proceeded to throw the balls at us and others around the rink!
We all indignantly gather up some ice shavings and staunchly defended family values. We then restored the home front and raised up a new family (though not so grand as the first). This time we succeeded in capturing the domestic scene on film, but just as we were posing for the second picture…WHOOSH! Mr. Krause comes hurtling through the scene again, slicing through the unsuspecting family with his blades and skated off laughing! I don’t think I need to draw the obvious conclusion on the matter of difference.

Wow, soccer is a rough game! Maybe I should take up football ๐ According to a conversation today at lunch, touch football has a lot less injuries (except for Gideon). I wonder if I keep God busy?
I got to talk to several of the Voice students today at breakfast. I really liked it and wish that we didn’t have chapel while they ate, we’re missing some great oppertunities to reach out and see another culture. It was so fun to watch them come through the line and wonder what to do with the gravy, and on being told, try to file it with the other gravy they had had for their Thanksgiving meal. (hmmm, mashed potatoes and now biscuits – strange country) Grace and Dennis tried to convince Rowan and I that tofu was really good and Rowan tried to explain how blue cheese wasn’t bad for you.
I can’t wait to go ice skating with them tonight! Im so glad God is creative and makes people and cultures so different. What fun!

Wow, I love the way a cold shower makes you breathe in quick.
That was random but recent. I praise God for those little luxeries of life.

Yep, too many cookies make it hard to get up and run in the morning. But Mr. Shoemaker had said that Kate had run 11 miles on Saturday so I couldn’t slack off. So six a.m. found Stacie and I signing out for a run.
I really liked having my brother along for the trip, I’m going to miss him. I’ve thought about calling mom and asking if he could just stay the rest of the semester with us ๐
I liked the speaker this morning even if my nodding off seemed to indicate otherwise. We abide in Jesus right? And He gives rest unto the weary, right? ๐
Now I have to go and meet with my Academic….Program Advis….Department…..ummm, Sandy!

Today I switched vans. Wait; is that the most interesting thing I can talk about? I guess itโs the closest thing on my memory besides supper and because we went to bed at 2 this morning and got up at 6:30 to tour D.C. I can only think of the most recent history. What’s really funny is that we’re here at Jeanne’s house and there are at least 8 laptops going. We are all in the same house, even narrowed down to two rooms and we’re talking to each other via our computers.
Anyhow, the vans. I switched because I felt really bad about riding in the van with the A/C while the others had to sweat it out in the other car. So I let someone have my space. My sacrifice wasn’t as great as I thought it would be because God decided to send cool weather and the car was as cool as if it really did have a working A/C. I love God.
I liked meeting Jonathan Boulden’s family and J.P.’s family; it’s always so amazing and fun to see family resemblance. Of course making breakfast with one of the little brothers gives conversation a good chance.
Lot’s of fun and interesting stuff happened on this trip, I hope we’ll be able to make some sort of report to the rest of the class. If not I’ll post some excerpts of an email I’m writing. Well this is kind of boring but my brain is fogging and I’ve had too many cookies. Goodnight all.
