Christmas Decorating!

First, of course, comes the lights. After a few minor adjustments, Brian has them all working!

Next comes hanging the lights! Brian lined the kitchen ceiling and I framed the door. We had about 1/3 of the strand left over after doing the door so Brian had the creative idea to brighten the welcome mat as well.

After the tree was assembled and lighted, we hung the decorations Stacie had made for me several Christmas’s ago. The coffee table got some out door decoration. It’s really nice, having a fake tree you don’t get that Christmas smell, but by cutting some greenery from the woods to decorate the problem was fixed!

Of course, the best is getting to decorate with mistletoe! That stuff is great when placed in strategic spots around the house. We just have to be careful when guests come over….

And finally a view of a Nativity set – we have three already! One I had, one we were given and the one Stacie made to hang on our tree. Good to have a constant reminder of why we have the Christmas spirit.

Last night it snowed! A little bit mind you, but really it wasn’t even December yet! Three hours North of Bryan makes a big difference in the weather.
In other news….Last night we had the Cahills over (Brian’s family).

I served the big lasagna (from the earlier post), a caesar salad, fruit salad and homemade sourdough bread. Note the new dishes – they came in just in the nick of time, otherwise we would have been eating on paper plates. I’m really thrilled to have them – now our kitchen is complete!
We showed them the apartment, had dinner and visited around the table for a while then moved to the living room where the guys played Spades and I talked with Mom and Benj., learned a few new camera tricks from Benj., then beat him at Mancala.
All in all it was a very fun evening and I had a blast hosting our first guests.
Coming soon…Christmas decorating!

Another first for me this week: Ironing Brian’s uniform.
We had a little lesson one evening. Brian demonstrated on a Chambray, then nervously watched as I tried my hand on his dress white. He only jumped in once when it looked like I was going to iron “railroad tracks” on his sleeve crease. He then introduced me to spray startch and his method of making those extra crisp tucks and creases. It’s all rather complicated at first, but it really turns out a nice product.
Men in uniform are very handsome.

Brian had a few first’s this week:
For the first time in our entire relationship (a whole five months!) Brian didn’t open my car door to get me out when we stopped! On the way home from Thanksgiving with my family we came across a two car wreck – looked like they had hit each other and one car then plowed into a light post. We were the first ones on the scene – the accident victims weren’t even out of their cars yet. Brian pulled to the side of the road and rushed out to see if he could help in  any way, I followed close behind. He helped a guy who was kind of beat up and unconscious at first until the police arrived on the scene, at that point it looked like the guy would be fine and we left. I again opened my own door, this time because Brian had blood all over his hands – we stopped at the nearest gas station so he could wash up.
The other first was that he ate a meal by himself for the first time since we had been married. I had to go into town and do some shopping and work on getting my passport changed and thus was gone over lunch. He sent a sad email to my account for me to see when I got home about how lonely it was in the dining hall without me.
Tonight I’m going to have a first of my own – a computer lesson on website building basics. Should be interesting.
Now I have to go meet my man for lunch

Well, it’s a day late, but I’ll bet you can all guess what I’m thankful for.
