Froggie flips!

After a meeting with the midwives last night to discuss our options, we met with another midwife this morning to try another technique to make this baby turn! After assisting in over 2500 births, this midwife has acquired certain skills, one of which is external manipulation on the baby in an effort to turn it around. After a little coaxing, the baby turned around! We were all elated and praised God for working on our behalf.

In other news….

At my appointment last night, it finally happened – my weight caught up with Brian’s!! After several weeks of little to no gain, Brian felt he had to get sick and help my chances. Well, it paid off, because I now weigh out at 155 – putting me just inside the range of normal pregnancy weight gain of 20-25 pounds.

After washing our car in the warm rain, the next day brought snow! Ahhhh, Texas. Yet, after last nights little cold spell, today is bright and sun-shiney with the temperature climbing back up to the comfortable level.

And for your enjoyment:

Due to all the excitement of being right side up, Tadpole had it’s picture taken again last night – quite a bit bigger than last time! If you can’t see a baby, that’s okay, it took me a while last night to see it too. Hopefully you can see a green profile and a green hand sticking up – maybe sucking it’s thumb 🙂

Turning baby

I got a new toy yesterday – an MP3 player!

It’s my new mommy gift from Brian. Not that I’m ‘officially’ a new mommy, but I’m having to do some things to help me come into my role a little easier. The baby still has not turned around so Brian figured if it was a good idea to play music to the baby, then we might as well get something portable so I can do it more often (previously I had to hook up to my laptop). I also have to lie on my back with my hips propped up, 3 times a day for 20 min. Another trick is to put an ice pack on my tummy on the idea that the baby might move away from the cold.

Here I am doing all three things at once – plus reading a book to help the time pass 🙂 I’ve also been to a chiropractor to have some adjustment done called the Webster technique that is specifically used to turn a breach baby. This of course is combined with much prayer because the only way that baby will turn is if God has a hand in it – all that I do is nothing, it’s in His control.

Prayers along this line would be appreciated because it might mess up our chances of a home birth. Further details along that line will be discussed at my appointment this Thursday if the baby hasn’t turned by then.

In other news….there was a rainstorm this evening and our car was really dirty. So during a lull, Brian and I raced outside in swimsuits with a bucket of soapy water and scrubbed the car down. Life sure is fun when you can do wacko stuff.

Parks

While Brian was sick last week, we took the opportunity to visit some of our local parks. We hadn’t found much to get excited about through Google maps – one outing about a month ago turned up this gem of a park:

We biked over with a picnic, all excited about our little date and just laughed when we got there….at least it had a tree!

Well, we had much better luck this time using the Irving Parks and Rec guide. One park turned up great landscaping, a nice Rec center and a pleasant walking trail. Another had an incredible skate park, a wooded jogging path and very friendly squirrels. The last one we visited mostly just had playground and picnic tables with a lot of land. Being the only ones around, Brian and I decided to try out the equipment – so we would know if Tadpole would like it. 😉

These are the kind of slides that generate a lot of static electricity!

Brian slid down a long one then chased me and shocked me! (It was a short chase)

I liked this brick circle and had Brian take “tummy picture” of me.

The parks provided some interesting outside time while Brian felt bad and helped us to get a feel for what activities were in the area. So next time our family visits…

A not so dark but scary night…..

We had just finished watching a movie and settled down for the night…still somewhat awake. So we were talking and laughing a little in the dark when suddenly, a light came on in the house!
Talk about scary! Both of us went silent right away, our minds trying to come up with some explanation for the light besides a burglar. Of course, I wasn’t scared at all….
“Brian, go see what it is”
Brian handed me the cell phone and crept out of bed, peering through the crack in the door. Ah, my brave protector, risking life and limb even though he was weak from being sick for several days! The light was coming from the living room, and peaking around the corner he saw one lamp brightly burning – the automatic touch sensor lamp. So after checking the rest of the house and double checking the lock on the front door, he turned out the light and came back to bed – where I bravely waited all by myself the whole time.
A – “A roach must have crawled over it”
B – “I don’t like that lamp – I unscrewed the bulb so it won’t happen again”
<pause>
B – “I’m wide awake now”

Playing Nurse

My activities over the last three days have been centered around a very sick husband. Waking up Tuesday morning, he sat down at the breakfast table only to realize that his stomach wanted no part of the scrambled eggs, fruit and quick bread. He decided he was sick, called work to let them know and then crawled back into bed.

He’s a pitiful little invalid and doesn’t like to be all alone. So I read to him, take him on little walks, join him for a nap or let him sit in a comfy chair and watch me while I do some necessary household chore. We also watched two movies together – a good way to pass time when you have no energy to do anything.

I expected to come down with the illness at any time, but surprisingly it never hit. I told Brian that it must be because I’m taking prenatal vitamins and he’s not. 😀 He didn’t eat much over the duration of the illness, but despite his weakened condition he managed to help me with a few manly chores and we went in for early voting.

During this time we were supposed to have a home visit from the midwife. We decided not to share the wealth however, so I went to their place instead – leaving Brian to entertain himself for a couple of hours. All checked out well at the appointment except the baby has turned around and is now breach. The midwife told me a few things to try and make it turn, one of which is to play music through headphones down where I want to head. She said it’s worked for several other mothers – apparently the baby likes the music and wants to get closer.

So here I am trying it out while typing at the computer. Someone gave me several “baby” music CD’s to play for Tadpole so I’m trying them out. There has been a little movement in there – maybe Tadpole is dancing!
