March 20 – 11:15 pm

6 lbs 2 oz – 19 1/2” long

Labor and birth went well and on entering the world, Lance was caught by his beaming dad. He had a little trouble clearing his lungs so he ended up going to the hospital for a little help. Things are looking good and he should be home soon. Amy’s parents came up to stay with her while Brian went with his son to the hospital. The next morning, after getting some rest and food in her, Amy came up to visit little Lance and just take time admiring her new son.

Both parents think he’s the cutest little thing! “Papa” and “Grammy” got to admire the new grandson as well as Brian’s Aunt and Uncle who have a daughter that works at the hospital.

Encouragement

Thanks so much for the prayers and encouraging comments on the last post! God has moved in several ways to boost my spirits since then.

First off, my dad and brothers were able to shift flights on their way home from Haiti and ended up making their overnight lay-over in Dallas instead of Florida so we were able to pick them up and enjoy them for the evening! We got to hear all the stories and see pictures and taste a few new foods. So the evening passed quickly and in good company.

Then today I spent some serious time with God and my Bible and came up with the thought that I should smile with each contraction and praise God for them instead of fighting against the pain, because each one was bringing the baby closer.

This evening, we had our midwife appointment and guess what – Brian and I weighed exactly the same amount!!!! We wished we had brought the camera to document the momentous occasion. The midwife also gave an encouraging report that all the contractions I had been having had made some progress, the baby had “dropped” and my iron was up into the good range!

Wow, so much good stuff all at once – Brian and I were really pumped and praised God. We then went and walked around the mall (the weather is too nasty to walk outside) and I’m taking some herb stuff that will either slow the contractions and let me sleep or finish me off into real labor.  I think Brian is getting the nesting syndrome though – he just washed the car, cleaned up the bathroom and vacuumed!

Waiting…..

Tadpole is keeping us in suspense. Due date is tomorrow, but signs of labor have begun….just not gone into full swing. Yesterday I had contractions all day getting as close as ten minutes apart during the afternoon. As evening drew close, things calmed down a bit but continued through the night, waking me every half hour or so. Brian woke up several times with me and offered support and encouragement as I waited them out and then dropped back to sleep.

About 6:00 this morning I decided trying to sleep wasn’t working so we got up and went for a walk, again getting things to around ten minutes apart. I ate a good breakfast and Brian stayed home – both wondering if this would be it! By lunch time though all was back to normal. The long day yesterday and last night plus the disappointment has me kind of worn out. I could use your prayers.

“Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary….He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength….But they that WAIT upon the Lord shall renew their strength…”

Is. 40:28-29,31

The Couple

Well, a watched pot never boils – or so the saying goes.

The family has come and gone and Tadpole remains hidden inside me despite the wishes of it’s aunts and Grandma. My mom and sisters provided good distraction and caused the week to fly by! From walks to playgrounds, from baby stores to zoos, from games to radio bloopers, every minute was filled! I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. One of the last activities was a photo shoot of Brian and I – compliments of Stacie. I thought I’d share what are most likely the last pictures of us as just a couple!

My family has been here this week, hoping to entertain me while I wait for Tadpole’s appearance. Some of our
activities have been documented on Lori’s site. I have taken up the camera to record yesterday’s trip to the zoo.

It was a perfect day to visit the zoo, the weather was cool enough so the animals really put on a show for the
visitors. My favorite was watching a young orangutan play with it’s “blankie”.

It started with peek-a-boo in the corner, but none of the others would pay any attention. It easily mastered the
climbing structure without losing the blankie and seemed very satisfied with it’s accomplishment. The other
orangutan’s still largely igonred the youngster.

Adopting a new tactic, the little one tried adopted a stealth maneuver – slowly sneaking up on the big daddy,
and then stood upright, holding the blanket up behind him like a ghost!

The scare tactic didn’t work.

That by far was the most interesting of the animal antics that day, but I was able
to capture many other good photos as we walked among the zoo-life.
