How does your garden grow

For all of you who got a laugh out of my first post about our garden, you should know that it’s doing much better now.

The cucumber vine is winding down the railing and I’ve harvested a few bell peppers.

The flowers lend a cheery look to our balcony.

It may not be as grand as ones I’ve had in the past, but I do my best with what I have. I really enjoy my little garden

Walk with a little boy

Yesterday we took a walk to find a rain puddle.

On the way he met a friendly cat, found a blue bottle cap,

checked out the air conditioners and said hi to the maintenance man.

We finally found some puddles left from the mornings downpour.

On our way back there was an incline and Lance had to practice a little….

looks like the skill still needs some work.

He ended the walk on a happy note however with a warm chocolate chip cookie from the office.

Introducing…

Meet our new appliance – Mr. Freeze

IMG_9348

Brian found him on Craig’s list and brought him home yesterday. He said this is my anniversary present 🙂

I’m excited because my cooking and sale shopping maxes out, if not overflows our current freezer. Now I can bake away to my hearts content. I told Brian the food I put in this freezer will be his anniversary present. 😛

Right now the only occupant is a pint of ice cream – very handy since the freezer is in our bedroom.

Fun times

We had a great Labor day weekend. We drove down to Brian’s parents on Friday evening and stayed until Tuesday afternoon.

Brian’s sister Rachel came, so all the cousins were together (this picture was actually taken last month). These three are going to be great friends and keep Nana hopping whenever they visit!

Ivy had her check-up and it appears that she has used whatever I had leftover from Lance. She’s 24 in. and 12.6 lbs. putting her in the 95th percentile for weight and above that for height!  So my two kids are both off the charts…in either direction! 🙂

We also had time for plumbing projects, a visit with friends, games and a good round of disc golf.

Brian especially wanted me to post the results of this game because we (Brian and I) beat the other two teams (Dad and Daniel, Kevin and Benj.) by three and four strokes!

I think our good game had to do with our mascot – Mr. boots. While Ivy stayed with Nana, Lance got to come with the big people and was quite a trooper, lasting 16 holes – then Aunt Kim took him to the playground. We’ll make a champion out of him yet!

We made it safely home  despite some craziness trying to get a birth certificate in Dallas. We unpacked, cut hair and went for a swim before settling down for the night – what a great vacation!

Lance – man

After several posts featuring Ivy, I thought I’d give Lance his share of the limelight.

IMG_9198

This photo really captures the boyhood in Lance right now – going at life full steam ahead with no reserves, no regrets and half the time with no clothes (too bad he doesn’t meet potty training head on). I am encouraged to report that he signed “potty” to me last night on his own thought – though it was more of an after thought – but I was excited for any step in the right direction.

As a Cahill he is already learning the value of money, though for now it’s more of a play thing –  handful of change keeps him entertained for an hour! He also puts great value on food, the making and especially the eating of it.

IMG_9305

Like a man, Lance enjoys his food (if he decides the food is eatable – this time it was mac & cheese and therefore approved). He has also picked up a funny trait; if he only gets one of something yummy, he’ll eat it very slowly, nibble by nibble. It can take him five minutes to eat a goldfish cracker. But if there’s plenty then he gobbles them all down like a growing kid.

Time with Daddy is always fun, and often educational. Here they review a networking diagram and during reading time he’s learning that penguins are “Linux”.

I left the kids with Brian this morning and he took the opportunity to instruct Lance in the skills of manhood.

And so my little boy is growing up.
