Adventures on December -24th

Since the weather was so nice today, mom decided that we needed to get outdoors and clean out part of the barn. This was in part due to mice who had made a mess chewing up feed sacks. While we worked faithfully below some of the younger boys ventured up into the loft when lo and behold, a mouse! This started an all out rush to catch him. He managed to escape but now the hunt was on. The cousins joined us in rearranging the boards in loft, searching for more mice. Nia (the dog) was right in the thick of it sniffing out each new place to excavate.

We soon discovered a nest of about twelve “pinkies.” The cats joyfully partook in dispatching them. All the while, mice were running every which way and kids with nets and buckets were everywhere. Unfortunatly a lot of the large mice escaped. Just as things were winding down, Nia discovered a door, when inspected, we found out it was hollow inside. We heard little scrabbling feet inside so we pulled it out of the loft and into the fire pit.

Lance and Garrion then lit into it with gusto. As you can see all the onlookers are armed with buckets and nets. As they tore apart the door nine mice were found inside and most were dispatched by Nia.

We are now in the process of resetting the barn and putting in place mouse traps!

The cat caught the first mouse.

Wow! Good work. Now your feed bill should go down.
