Why am I posting at such an hour? I’m taking advantage of the wireless connection that I have taken for granted. This will be my last opportunity to use such a connection for a while. Later on this morning – hopefully after I’ve slept a bit – I will be headed back to the land I love.

My first stop however will not be my home, but another training center. I’ll be working in Big Sandy for a month officially as STEP photographer, but also as a jack of all trades, filling in where I might be needed – from cleaning, to rappelling, to PT, or just being a friend (my favorite part).

I want to say goodbye to all of the 05 class, and see you in August to all the 06. This has been a wonderful year and I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. Thank you Micah for working with my brother, he really enjoyed it. Thanks to all who accommodated to let my other siblings help out around the place and thanks to those who were friendly and talked to them and my parents. My family had a good time here and really enjoyed getting to meet everyone and see what it was like to be here.

May the Lord bless each one of you with a purpose and calling. May He grant opportunities of ministry this summer, and may your hearts and minds be molded for usefulness to Him.

Here are the words to the paraody that we song last night. Feel free to copy and paste or whatever you want to do, I’m not registered for any copyright – at least not yet 🙂

If someday it may happen that a class must graduate, I’ve got a little list, I’ve got a little list. Of Verity staff graduates who might well be potentates, and who surely will be missed, they surely will be missed.

There’s our Dean of Men who greets us with enthusiastic tone;

His dutiful assistant who wants hair unlike his own;

Then Julia who makes all the calls on clothes and rooms and rules,

While Lawren votes that coffee’s the essential study tool;

With Becky meditating on a way to save the school; they brought about renewal, we’ll miss them here at school.

Moving to Department Heads who give us all advice, they’re on this little list, they’re on this little list. While holding us accountable, reviewing templates twice. They’re on this little list, they’re on this little list.

We’ve got Minna, though she’s busy, of your problem she’ll make note;

While Sandy working overtime keeps the “Good Ship” afloat;

Then Josh who taught us all that green and plaid could coexist,

Andrew working DE was a camera humorist,

While Arlen singing witty songs on his guitar insists; I think they will be missed, I’m sure they will be missed.

There is one more group to recognize before they are dismissed; we put them on the list, we put them on the list. We are grateful for the jobs they do and people they assist, so we put them on the list, we put them on the list.

There’s Kendra Benz, who “pretty much” is never seen at meals,

And Curtis who like Superman, performs his job with zeal,

Heather Kern was here six weeks but dearly loved by all,

Remember the projectiles Jess threw in the dining hall,

While Heather’s large vocabulary kept us on the ball; we’re going to miss them all, we’re going to miss them all. We put them on the list, we put them on the list and they’ll all of them be missed, they’ll all of them be missed.

What a great night! It was like the years highlights in review and a chance to show what Verity had taught us. Thanks to my group for their work and James on the piano, ya’ll were awesome! I was also impressed with Josh and Ryan and the songs they put together, it is beyond me how they can come up with music like that – I have to plagiarize from Gilbert and Sullivan 🙂 Oh, and Arlen too, he comes up with words and music!

During the wills I became really excited and started thinking about what I could will next year and tried to think of who would get the stuff only to realize with a start that I didn’t even know any of the new class! Hats off to the ’05 who made us feel like one of the group, I challenge myself and the rest of the ’06 class to do the same this coming Sept.

Even after all the activities tonight, we still have quite the weekend ahead of us, may we continue on in the power of His might.

Oh wow! It’s sooo good to see my family again! Our excitement must have affected our memories though because we forgot our sleeping bags and passports, necessitating a stop back in Flint on our way to Canada – hence the opportunity to post J

We spent all day at sleeping bear dunes, hiking over the sand, skipping stones in lake Michigan, viewing the beauty of spring, and coming upon the tail end of the “Second Annual Asparagus festival” of Empire MI! Talk about enjoying times of laughter together.

Late in the afternoon we made it to the overlook where the dune drops 450 feet down to the water. Dad gave some of us permission to go down if we felt like it so five of us took off down the slope. The trip down was very easy and we spent a little time looking for the “perfect rock” before heading back up. The signs at the top weren’t kidding about the hard climb, every step you took slid back half way in the lose sand and the grade was so steep you could almost crawl upright.

As we climbed I started seeing some parallels to the Christian walk. The first was finding that if I followed my brother and stepped in his footprints, then the sand was already packed a little and I didn’t slide backwards as much. Next was finding out the truth of the verse “they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.” A lot of times I like to keep going even when I’m tired, thinking it a shame to have to stop and rest, but if I just took the time to stop with the others it was amazing how much better I could go on than if I had kept pushing. Lastly I noticed that as we got towards the top there were a lot of stones mixed in with the sand, but as the way became rocky, the climbing got easier because the rocks helped hold the sand better and kept you from slipping back.

Uggg, I can’t seem to study today. I’ve tried everything, but my mind just won’t cooperate, it just sits there looking at words, refusing to assimilate them as thoughts. By late afternoon I discovered that I could get through my review cards at the rate of one per mile on the stationary bike – good thing I only had six left.

Maybe it’s the excitement of almost being done, maybe it’s the fact that my family is going to be here tomorrow, or maybe my brain is just full. Thank God I have all summer to clear it in preparation for the fall.

Of course the test itself might put me through the wringer; there sure was a lot of material to cover! Please pray for me if you think of it tomorrow anywhere between nine and eleven. I trust in God because He cares for me.
