……what really happened.
Okay, if some of ya’ll thought the last post was a little far fetched
then you’re pretty much right. Brian and I just thought it would be
funny to set up a little something following the “advice” of some of
his ALERT pals.
WARNING!: The rest of the post will tell what really happened – I
believe there will be a rating for mush factor so read on only if you
can stomach it.
Since this was the first real meeting of Brian, I thought I would see
what kind of stuff he was made of and planned a full Saturday. We got
up at 6:00am and went for an hours bike ride covering somewhere around
10-12 miles. (no picture because we couldn’t get a photographer up that
early) After a hearty breakfast we shared some pictures and DVD’s of
things we had done the rest of the morning. Following lunch we played
“Imagine If” (the Lassiters favorite future in-law game) then went
swimming at Adamson’s Lagoon. While there he challenged my brother
Brian and I to a race – which he won. So far so good.
Rushing home, we grabbed some pizza and shared it with Michael and
Lindsey before heading out to a soccer game. This was his public test
of stamina an skill, requested by Daniel and attended by the curious.
Brian raced all over the field despite the oppressive heat and proved
not only his ball handling skills but also his ability to be a team
player and a knowledge of where the ball needed to be and when.
At home that evening we looked at the long line for the showers
and decided our time could be better used by a walk. So for the next 45
minutes or so we “explored” the pastures; mostly it was me trying to
find my way around in the dark and getting a disoriented because of not
being able to see familiar landmarks. At one point I stopped short
because I thought I saw something up ahead. Are those cows? I asked.
Brian said they were and then suggested that we should go cow tipping
but the cows had different ideas and quickly moved away.
I was exhausted by the end of the this long day but Brian
said he felt great and wasn’t sleepy at all. At this I conceded defeat
and now regard him as pretty much the buffest man ever – I just hope
I’ll be able to keep up with him because he applies this same
enthusiasm and vigor in anything he takes up.
And now the pictures you have been dreading/waiting for:
Ummmm….the stick broke

Our big Romantic Weekend – The approved version.
Brian came over this weekend to sort of check things out. We were both
nervous; could hardly eat; could hardly sleep. We both arrived at the
house from our separate work locations within a half and hour of each
other. Brian arrived first and the whole family tried their best to
fill him in on all of my quirks. I arrived and we spent a wonderful
evening together with the family – all eyes watching.
Brian brought his little brother, Benjamin, along and teaming up
with Katie they became our watchdogs, making sure there was always a
good six inches between us. Of course, we were very thankful for them
keeping us straight. Notice also the outfits – all to make a good
impression.
Then of course there was the issue of walks. Hand holding of course is
forbidden (horrors, shudders!) So we found a wonderful compromise – a
stick!
Then of course there was the wonderful times talking on the couch. Oh,
the coziness and beauty of it all – dad of course was the last touch of
perfection on the time. Isn’t my dad great? He always has my best
interests and happiness in mind.
So yes, that was our weekend – full of fun, food, fellowship and most importantly, family!

Don’t get too worried folks – that last post was just for Daniel’s benefit.
However, if you would like to meet Brian come join us for soccer Saturday night.

Yes, this post has been a little while in coming – I just haven’t had much time. Okay, okay, maybe I do have time and I’m just spending it doing other things.
So I guess ya’ll want the whole story, at least what there is so far.
I knew Brian, sort of; I had seen him at ALERT when I went for STEP each year but that was about it – I don’t think we had ever even said hi to each other. I met his sister, Kim, up at Verity and became very good friends with her but that really had nothing to do with Brian’s desire to court me. To put it as Brian did, it all started in Flint…
I had been in Big Sandy working STEP but about a week into it I made a quick trip up to Michigan to graduate from Verity. While I was there I talked to many people and one just happened to be Brian and his brother Kevin (who was graduating with me) I said congratulations and all that stuff and we talked for a little bit then went our separate ways. The only impression I had of the conversation was being amazed that Brian even talked to me (because it seemed like he avoided all STEP girls when I was at ALERT). Brian on the other hand came away with a different impression – he felt a prompting from God that this was the girl he was to marry.
Both making our way back to the ALERT campus he watched me as I finished the rest of the month with the STEP program. He liked how I worked hard, was physically fit, and had a heart’s desire to counsel and work with the girls. I on the other hand had no clue.
A week or so after STEP Brian talked to his dad and then mine, meeting with my parents when they took Andrew back to ALERT (sneaky way to meet with a potential suitor huh?). Dad told me about it Friday night when I got home from camp. I was totally shocked and if I seemed a little out of the volleyball game on Sunday – well, let’s just say I had a lot on my mind. I had to leave the following Friday to return to camp and work, so we had to set up a time to get together before I left so on Monday we set up for their family to come down the next day! Things were moving so fast!
The Cahill family came over and we Sept the day getting to know them – I spent the day getting to know a different side of Brian than I had ever seen. I was still confused and scared by the time they left that evening.
Wednesday I fasted, prayed and sought counsel. The result was my agreeing to court Brian Cahill.
This whole week since we have been sharing information back and forth, trying to get to know each other. God has seemed to bring us together through a mutual trust in His direction. Brian is proving to be a godly, wonderful, sensitive man and I’m thankful to the Lord for giving him to me.
