Petit Jean – Day 2

Our first hike of the day was down to the waterfall – everything was so gorgeous! Benj. brought his camera along and took some great pictures – this was my favorite.

He also caught one of us as we explored behind the falls and me as I missed my man at the kissing rock.

I liked the composition and colors of this shot. We had a great time scrambling on the rocks at the base of the falls.

After lunch we hiked the nature trail – scenic view # 11

Next followed an intense game of croquet – where we youngsters came from behind to beat our elders!
That evening we played a great game of seek-and-go-hide in “Bear Caves” – a bunch of huge boulders and rock formations with caves and crevices perfect for hiding.

Last sight at the park as we leave for home. Don’t we look like the VonTrapp family?
I had a blast out on vacation and I’m so grateful I got to go.

Petit Jean – Day 1

I just went on vacation to a state park in Arkansas with the Cahill clan – Brian couldn’t get off work, but he graciously allowed me to go and boy did I have a great time!
Anyhow, everything was just incredible – fall was making it’s way through the trees and we enjoyed it to the fullest extent, hiking upwards of five miles each day. I’ll let pictures do most of the talking.

Here’s one of the great little cabins at the park.

Our first hike led us to a natural bridge – I climbed on top!  I loved all the rocks and colors.

Being introduced to the family tradition – Kevin ran 10 miles with the animals in a backpack – all for a picture to let  the animals left at home see what kind of adventures the lucky ones had.

Benj. takes a snooze on a comfortable rock….then poses at the turtle rocks.

This is Rock House cave  – fun for echos and howling and stuff.

Here’s looking out of the cave – everything was just so incredibly beautiful!
We finished the day with a great meal and games then creaked our tired bones into bed to prepare for another day – which I will post about later!

Brian turned into a Mr. Fit-it this weekend. He insulated the front door better (preparing for winter ) We also made this nifty grill rack to fit on our porch railing and made a shelter for our bikes.

Much thanks to my dad who had all the random materials that we used for these projects.

Later that morning we went to gather pecans at a nearby park. I’ve got a lot of work in front of me now! If only I had a Nutcracker…..
Brian also went dumpster diving for the first time  – someone threw away a great little desk unit that was in good condition. We helped ourselves and after Brian gave it a thorough cleaning we installed it in the work room – it’s going to be a nice addition!
I’ve also learned to be careful about taking Brian to WalMart with me He saw some shelves (we have been wanting to put some in our closet for a while) so Sunday night after church we made a quick stop to get them. Of course, like Christmas, once you get something new you’ve got to open it and use it right away! It turned into a major organizational project and we stayed up till midnight getting things arranged.
Then, last night we went to a acrobatic/clown show. A lady that works for the Arts center gave us free tickets so we enjoyed a date. Brian even became part of the show when the clown was roaming throuh the audience and chose Brian’s head as a great place to sit…on a whoopie cushion.

And just for you entertainment – here’s what laundry day looks like at our place. I spent most of yesterday getting things in order so I can go on vacation today! I’m going with Brian’s family to their favorite State Park. Brian has to stay here and work though We will miss each other. He is very generous to let me go have fun like this.

Okay, looks like I need to write a little bit on here. Mostly I’m putting off something I’m supposed to be doing
Anyhow, not a huge lot to report from the weekend except that we’re investigating a very promising church – so that’s exciting! Hopefully I’ll start making friends once we’re settled for sure. Though we did get some good friends from a church we visited just one time. My advice? Take time for the fellowships, that’s when you really get to know people!
Brian finished his school course on Organizational Behavior and scored an A+  on the class! He’s 1/4 of the way done now which is really encouraging! He’s now waiting on his next textbook to arrive in the mail.
I’m working on a radio drama of the Nutcracker story – which goes quite a bit beyond the ballet. I read the story to Brian and he had a really good idea for part of it.
I’m also memorizing portions of Luke 1&2 – the part concerning Mary. I figured I’ll be ‘with child’ over the Christmas holidays, so that would be a fun portion of scripture to think about as I memorize.
Oh, and last night we went to Brahm’s for ice cream. Someone had given Brian some money to something for me and we both thought that ice-cream would be a good idea.

    “Some people feel that life begins at conception;
others, when a baby draws its first breath.
However, there are an increasing number that feel that
life doesn’t truly begin until the last child has left the house.”
 – A Catholic Priest

I know that my baby is alive – alive and kicking! Just last night a typical event unfolded….

 – Amy busy on her computer, Brian writing a college paper on his –
Amy: Wow, tadpole is really moving around a lot!
 – Brian takes less than a minute to finish the paragraph he’s typing then comes to put his hand on Amy’s belly –
……nothing…..
 – Amy pushes tummy – “wake up tadpole!”
 “I don’t feel anything”
“Come on tadpole, don’t make mommy a liar – kick your daddy!”
“….I still don’t feel anything”
“I guess tadpole went to sleep”
 – Brian goes back to his writing and Amy to hers, the evening continues without further interruption. –

This morning however, Tadpole was a little more agreeable and daddy got to feel several good kicks – I think it will be a morning person.
