LIFE

“Life is Good

We really believe this. So much so that we’re planning to use that phrase as an acronym for our children’s names, starting with Lance, Ivy, Flora and Eden.

This is not some Pollyanna-ish idea that comes from a state of newly wed bliss but has been our life experience since we were young. The idea is based on a truth in God’s word:

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.Romans 8:28

We love the Lord and know that whatever comes our way – good or bad – is for our good, even if we don’t understand it at the time. God gives us abundantly all things to enjoy.

and you can live it that way.”

Part of our enjoyment in life comes by setting our attitude correctly. Developing a grateful attitude, searching for the fun in a given situation and generating enthusiasm for any task doesn’t come naturally but sure adds zest when properly employed. Two people can face the same circumstance, good or bad, but each get to respond however they want. That response will determine whether they enjoy/overcome the situation or wallow in selfishness and despair.

However the key to our happiness lies in Christ. It is because we love the Lord and follow His principles that we can be assured every event is for our good. Just as a small pain warns us of the danger of leaning against a hot stove, so a troubling circumstance can be God’s way of warning us of greater dangers if we continue in a certain direction.

For whom the Lord loves He corrects, even as a father the son in whom he delightsProverbs 3:12

Not every “bad” thing we encounter is a punishment. Sometimes it is a training ground, strengthening us for tougher times to come. Just like an athlete prepares for a big race – the training can be hard and painful at times but is necessary to achieve the desired result. And so, pleasant or painful, we know that whatever comes our way is good.

Jesus says

I am come that you may have life and that you may have it more abundantly.John 10:10

Because our life is in Him, it is abundant. Therefore, our “life is good.”
