Happy Valentines Day!!!
My little love bugs.
Cookies that Lance made and decorated all by himself.
Consider yourself loved!
I peeked out the door this morning to see what the forecast of snow had given us and was amazed by a quiet, beautiful snowscape. After about 20 min of bundling the kids and myself up in warm clothes we went out to enjoy the weather! (Flora stayed inside with Daddy for those of you that wondered).
I carried the kids down the steps, set them in the snow and stepped back to see what they would do….
Ivy was a little snow mobile – no help needed here! Notice the plastic bags around the feet to keep the snow out? I’ll bet that increased our outside time by 10 min!
Lance loves the idea of snow but the actuality is a bit more than he cared to face by himself. Perhaps he was remembering the slippery ice of the last few days.
He loved the icicles though – I think that one is as big as he is!
I loved the snow on the rock wall!
This reminded me of something you would only see up north!
It’s funny, the pool was frozen over yesterday and I watched some of the apt. complex staff take their pictures standing on the edge of the ice. I wanted to do the same today but everything had turned slushy even though the temps had stayed cold.
Ivy enjoys the “hot tub”
And this picture is just because I thought the pattern was really cool.
No snow sculptures because it’s so cold the snow is powdery and not wet enough to stick together. There’s a dad and his kids outside right now trying to build a snowman and it probably took the 30 min to pack two balls together for a two foot snowman. Maybe I’ll take the kids out to admire it in a little while….
Lance: Hero material
Brian asked for the salt and pepper at a meal. Always eager to do grown up things Lance asked for the pepper. When that had been sprinkled on his food he asked for the “white pepper” as well.
Lance may not know how to count, but he arrives at the right answer: Counting hippos in a book – “three, pibe (five) six, pibe” then he holds up two fingers and correctly announces that there are two hippos.
Lance can’t say the letter “F” for the life of him so the dogs around here say “russ, russ!”
Lance feels compelled to pass on every command he is given:
Daddy: Lance, take a bite
Lance: Ivy, take a bite!
Mommy: Lance, go potty
Lance: Ivy go potty!
Ivy: Our new bottle washer
Ivy has a touch of a Russian accent: She likes to “ride a horski”, “watch a moveski” and play ring around the rose-ski”
Ivy calls her teddy bear “tebba-lair”
Once Ivy was crying and Lance pushed her into their room (the crying room), shut the door and yelled through it “Ivy, no crying!”
Flora: The quiet one
Flora doesn’t say much but it shouldn’t be long. Already she would rather coo at me than eat.
If she’s just lying somewhere playing and you come up and talk to her she breaks out into a huge smile, so excited that you noticed her!
Here’s a bit of Lance chatter
Yesterday we had a cold front blow in with snow and ice. It’s 18 degrees as I type and our sliding glass door is frozen shut. Brrr!!!
I spent most of yesterday baking in an effort to warm the house but later that afternoon I bundled up the kids to go and explore the ice.
Lance thought it was great fun to have his feet slip and slide – especially if I was holding his hand so he wouldn’t fall. We also enjoyed watching the cars attempt to park on a small incline; tires spinning helplessly as they lost ground.
Ivy took the experience in her typical straightforward way. Caution is not her middle name and she didn’t want to hold my hand. Fortunately she had enough clothing on to pad her falls.
Back inside I searched about for something to slide on. I found a cardboard box that had formerly served as a “tunnel” and set about converting it into a toboggan.
Duct tape held things together while clear packing tape served to make the bottom slick as…well, ice!
Riding in a sled is cold even if it is fun. So we warmed up with some hot chocolate and remembered why we don’t live any farther north than Dallas!
